Western Kingbird Use of Brightly-Colored Artificial Fibers as Nesting Material

Abstract

Using personal observations, anecdotal reports from others, and a review of online nest photos, we found that Western Kingbirds frequently incorporate brightly-colored strands of various fibers into their nests. Blue fibers appear to be highly favored as that color was much more frequently observed than others.
