Flicker Dance

Naturalists from at least Audubon’s time have commented on this flicker “dance” (Bent 1939), which is considered an aggressive display used for territorial defense and/or mate selection and seen almost exclusively in early spring (Noble 1936, Wiebe and Moore 2008).
